Lifestyle | Movie - The Host

I'm going to be honest, the main reason for me to watch this movie was Max Irons ('The White Queen') and my expectation weren't very high, but boy this movie proved me wrong ! It was so good ! (I cried, oh what's new?!)

It is based on the novel written by Stephenie Meyer, a.k.a. the author of the Twilight Saga, and while I loved reading these books and some of the movies, I didn't think that The Host would be this good. I kind of neglected the book every time I stumbled upon it, but after seeing the movie I might just read it in the near future :) I don't know why but when I read the summary or watch the trailer, I still don't get the same vibe that I had while watching the movie and the story doesn't come across as strong as it actually is. So I guess you'll have to trust me on my word for this one ;)

"A race of aliens who are non corporeal go from planet to planet looking for hosts. They come to Earth and basically take over human bodies. Now it's believed that once they take over a body all memories of the previous inhabitant are gone. And there are some humans who have remain hidden from them and are basically a resistance movement. So an alien charged with locating them known as the Seeker captures one of them a girl named Melanie and puts one of them who is known as Wanderer in her body, in hopes of finding out where the humans are. But Melanie for some reason is still there and she convinces Wanderer not to say anything to Seeker. Wanderer feels empathy for the humans. When Seeker is disappointed at her lack of progress, she informs Wanderer that she'll be removed and placed in a new host and she will be placed in Melanie. Melanie knowing she can't convince her the way she convinced Wanderer convinces Wsnderer to run away and they can meet with the humans. Eventually they find them but only want to kill her but Jeb, Melanie's uncle for some reason doesn't want to. Jared, Melanie's boyfriend wants her dead too. But Ian someone Jeb tasked with keeping her safe finds himself attracted to her but Melanie won't allow it because she wants to go back to Jared. But how do they get Wanderer out of her. And Seeker is trying to find her."

Lifetyle | Series - The White Queen

Hi there !

I have a new series addiction and it's called The White Queen (BBC One - 9 p.m.)
The series is based on three books written by Philippa Gregory, The White Queen, The Red Queen and The Kingsmaker's Daughter. It tells the story of the War of the Roses in England, the war between the red rose (Lancaster) and the white rose (York). Each book tells the story from a different point of view and those views are combined in the series.

Last year I read the White Queen for my English exam and loved it so much, that I was super excited for this series to come out ! It will air next year in Belgium, but I couldn't wait so I began to watch it on BBC One :)
Let me tell you, the series doesn't fail to please (this seems to be my favourite sentence this last month, haha) The novel is very accurately followed and the special atmosphere is certainly preserved.
I can only talk about the part that I read (The White Queen) but the series got me interested to read the other two novels.

In my opinion the actors do a great job. Rebecca Ferguson portrays Elizabeth Woodville just as I imagined her to be. Not to mention how good Max Irons is as Edward of York ! Seriously, the guy gives me goosebumps in places I won't even begin to mention haha :p In the novel King Edward is portrayed as a very strong, kind, brave, romantic person and this is exactly the vibe the Irons shows in his acting.
A little special thing is that one of our Belgian actors, Veerle Baetens, was asked to play the role of Margaret of Anjou (The Red Queen) and she does an excellent job !

Ah look at those York boys, hmmmmm ! I am so impressed by the series and once again sucked into the 15th century that I find myself reading a lot about it on Wikipedia and craving to read all of Philippa Gregory's books haha :)
I could go on about this series for hours, but I'm going to let the series talk for itself by adding a little clip at the end of this post. Enjoy ! ;)

Talk to you soon !
